HN discussionWe've done a lot of work on "self-hosted AND automated" inletsctl - automates a VM with the inlets tunnel server preinstalled, including with HTTPS termination with Let's Encrypt, or pure TCP pass-through inlets-operator - the same for Kubernetes Load Balancer services Feel free to take a look at https://inlets.dev/ We talk a lot about the community adoption here in the first half - https://inlets.dev/blog/2022/11/1…

HN discussionIt's unfortunate the only mature open source alternative[1] went on a path to seriously expensive subscriptions, 5x of a tailscale personal subscription. [1]: https://inlets.dev/

HN discussionInteresting to see Qualet on the front page of Hacker News. I don't think it has had enough attention. We had Ygal & Valentin from the project submit a guest post on how to run an inlets tunnel client (think of Ngrok/Cloudflared, but self-hosted without any SaaS limits) - https://inlets.dev/blog/2023/10/03/client-quadlet.html Rather than using [container] they used [kube] and were able to bring along standard Kubern…

HN discussionI would usually have gone for vnc and have used TigerVNC on my Mac - you can even run a VNC server and desktop in a Docker container. I actually learned about xrdp over the weekend whilst trying to help an inlets user connect to his remote lab in Edinburgh from Vienna. There's a couple of screenshots here showing it in action - https://twitter.com/alexellisuk/status/1269639837335904257?s... - inlets PRO is a pure TC…

HN discussionAuthor of https://inlets.dev here, inlets is open-source (client and server) and can be self-hosted along with link encryption with TLS. We use web sockets which can penetrate almost any firewall/NAT situation. It's also important to note the Kubernetes and cloud integration for provisioning your own exit hosts. Take a look. TCP support in PRO edition with personal license available.

HN discussionLooks like this is using GPL - if companies want something they can use for commercial purposes, checkout https://inlets.dev which is on the CNFC Landscape and also has a deep Kubernetes integration through its operator. https://github.com/inlets/inlets-operator

HN discussionHi, I'm the author of Inlets. We've seen a recent rise in users looking to tunnel TCP traffic w/o these kinds of hacks and additional tools. I wrote up a quick guide back in early May - seems relevant to this article as one of the newest users couldn't get Cloudflare to work with TCP how he wanted. https://inlets.dev/blog/2023/05/04/expose-local-tcp-ports.ht...

HN discussionThis new release makes tutorials like the below easier to follow and quicker to set up. Rather than setting up a VM manually, inletsctl can do it for you. https://inlets.dev/blog/2021/02/11/secure-letsencrypt-tunnel... The idea of inlets is to set up a self-hosted tunnel which has no rate limits, port, domain or usage restrictions. Competing with a managed service (SaaS) tunnel means needing to automate the develope…
