What Hacker News says?

  1. How about advocating for more objective hiring processes then? You could use AI to mask someone's voice and visage during a video interview. This was actually tried btw, see if you can predict the result: https://interviewing.io/blog/voice-modulation-gender-technic...

I stumbled across another amazing resource a while back - recorded mock interviews: https://interviewing.io/recordings/Python-Google-6/ I'm not affiliated with this site, I just thought this was a great idea and well executed. I used to lean toward the "studying algorithms, data structures, whiteboarding, etc. is useless since I'll never actually need them" ideology until later in my career when I realized that wors…

  7. > The market for talent is competitive. A couple months ago interviewing.io posted something bragging about how "we do anonymous mock interviews. If people perform well in those interviews, they get introduced directly to a decision-maker at top-tier companies, regardless of how they look on paper." 9. 1) DEI can be done badly, of course, and in an ideal world would be unnecessary, I think anyone on either side of any spectrum wants merit over anything else, but for various historical, systemic, as well as unconscious bias [1], this has not been the case, statistically. DEI on the ~interviewer~ side, not the interviewee side can and has addressed [1]. I fail to see the downside. The only way to claim it's unfair w…

  13. > For mock interviews, definitely check out: > http://interviewing.io/ I got this recommendation about a year ago and tried. The site stated that I couldn't register, but I could sign up for a place in the registration queue. So I did that. I have yet to hear back from them. I don't quite understand how people keep recommending them, as if it was possible to use the site.

  19. We use https://interviewing.io/ a lot, and there is ample opportunity to provide both structured and unstructured feedback from the candidate to the interviewer, and from the interviewer to the candidate. This seems like a better model than recruiters filtering the information.

  21. I was in a similar situation 3 years ago. Like other people said, I'd focus on growth-stage startups (Stripe, Checkr, Airbnb, Opendoor, etc). I found their interviews more practical and approachable than Facebook, Google, etc. Most of the places I interviewed had me writing and running real code on my own computer. I spent about a month prepping with: * Cracking the Coding Interview * https://www.interviewcake.com :…

  25. > I also am in favor of "open book" interviews. I recall reading an interviewing.io blog post[0] in which the dominant considerations interviewers weighed were (my interpretation): (1) Did they solve the problem optimally? (2) How fluid was their coding? With "communication" turning out to be basically worthless for predicting hire/no-hire decisions. Perception of coding fluidity seems like it would be affected by h…
