HN discussionOn this spectrum, there's also "read by refactoring" ( https://www.jamasoftware.com/blog/read-by-refactoring/ ). You'll need good refactoring tooling and good versioning (as you'll almost certainly want to discard many of your trial refactorings) but I've found that the approach helps me evaluate how my mental model matches up with reality. It also generally leads to a more readable codebase too

HN discussion> The solution should be something like requiring them to build nuclear or renewable energy, That's happening without regulations, though, isn't it? It's been making headlines for the last few months. For instance: - Meta https://carboncredits.com/meta-signs-three-nuclear-deals-of-... - Alphabet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kairos_Power?utm_source=chatgp... - Microsoft https://www.jamasoftware.com/blog/2025/10/14/t…

on “U.S. Emissions Jumped in 2025 as Coal Power Rebounded”That might work... once. AdWords strikes me as the death of marketing still shambling along as a zombie. (Not to dis an army of shambling zombies, they have their own sort of power.) The genius of a marketer is not required, just pick some words and pay the bill. P.T. Barnum would be horrified by AdWords. I expect he would have done better with the first two paragraphs of http://www.jamasoftware.com/ too.

on “Software Company Ditches AdWords for... Kiva?”The old school approach is to use Excel and a Requirements Traceability Matrix. It’s not fancy, but it works, especially when plans, procedures and test results point back to the matrix. The failure in traceability is usually human error or lack of compliance. It has to be a team priority and enforced by management and work style/environment. Here are some options/things to look at in making your decision: https://w…
