Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Linked for a Python subprocess guide covering shells, pipes and redirects, plus a 2007 Safari for Windows post and EC2 network benchmarks. One commenter says the subprocess post's data flow diagram is wrong.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

  3. The python parts seemed OK. But the data flow diagram in the OP at: http://jimmyg.org/blog/2009/working-with-python-subprocess.h... (I.e., the first blue box in the article, "what happens when you execute a command") is wrong. It implies that the command (ls -l) is read by the terminal emulator, which gives it to bash, which gives it to the kernel. This is wrong in several ways. The terminal emulator starts bash (or…

  7. Funny story, but someone I know claims responsibility for killing Safari on Windows. If you remember, those were the days when Windows software were kind of "bland" looking and Apple OS and software was "Shiny" with their brushed aluminium looks and glassy UI widgets (see screenshot here - https://jimmyg.org/blog/2007/safari-3-beta-for-windows.html ). So when Apple released Safari on Windows, it was more or less a c…

  9. I use EC2 and I do swear by it. I see the initial extra effort you need to put in to get it to work right (designing for failover etc) as: 'the more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle'. I first ported a toy app that I wrote ( http://www.instantwordsearch.com ) to EC2 - as an exercise. I personally learnt a lot in the process. Now I use EC2 for everything I do. It is a LOT of fun (imho). Interesting…

  11.
