What Hacker News says?

  1. http://jamesknelson.com/learn-raw-react-no-jsx-flux-es6-webp... Looks like Mithril code ( https://mithril.js.org/ ) if you alias React.createElement to a short function name. I learned Mithril before React, and kinda think it's a better learning experience to learn the simple way like this first, and then add build tools, Redux, JSX later (if you choose to).

  3. Angular is harder for beginners because it has everything loaded. React has fewer consepts. When learning & for non-complex apps, you don't even need flux etc. extra stuff. http://jamesknelson.com/learn-raw-react-no-jsx-flux-es6-webp...

  5. You should learn React for one simple reason: It's quite definitely going to be huge. Well, that's what I was saying a year ago - it's fair to say now that it is already huge and it's likely to stick around for a long time (at least in JS years). If you're involved in the JS scene, learning React will give you a big advantage. At which point you can decide whether you like it or not. As for mixing JS and HTML, I wen…

  7. Got a whole bunch of tutorials listed in my React/Redux links repo, at https://github.com/markerikson/react-redux-links . If you're looking for a couple that are really simple and involve no other tools or libraries, you may be interested in http://jamesknelson.com/learn-raw-react-no-jsx-flux-es6-webp... or https://github.com/kay-is/react-from-zero .

  11. The "store" is purely data that is on the client. What data you put in the store is up to you. It may be a mixture of domain data from the server ("what items do I have in cache"), application-specific data ("the current selected item is #42"), and UI state ("there is a modal that is visible, of type ItemEditor"). It's certainly possible to put every single bit of data in your app into Redux, but there are definitel…

  13. This is a _great_ tutorial series! I've already added it to my React/Redux links list ([0}), and is definitely one that I'd point people to right away in the future, along with other tutorials like the official React docs ([1]), the "React to the Future" slideshow ([2]), and the "Learn Raw React - no JSX or ES6" tutorial ([3]). 15. This article was my first exposure to React, and it goes through the basics of building a very simple "list of people" using nothing more than a single HTML file. It doesn't even use JSX, instead showing you how to build the raw JS that the JSX would compile to. I found it to be a great introduction without a lot of overhead to learn. http://jamesknelson.com/learn-raw-react-no-jsx-flux-es6-webp...

  17. I started with this tutorial[0] that covers react with no JSX, no Flux, no ES6, and no Webpack. It is just a couple of script includes and normal html/javascript. From that tutorial, I was able to understand exactly what react is . Then I started adding in the other items on top. It's definitely not a boilerplate "site in 5 minutes", but it's also a lot less confusing when trying to learn what's going on underneath…

  23. Google has been saying that for years, but I don’t really believe it… 1) First there were the "hashbang" URLs, that Google said they'd crawl fine, but that did affect Gawker's SEO: http://www.webmonkey.com/2011/02/gawker-learns-the-hard-way-... 2) And instagram uses server rendering for SEO: https://twitter.com/cpojer/status/711729444323332096 (via http://jamesknelson.com/universal-react-youre-doing-it-wrong... )

  25. I can highly recommend anything written by James. His previous "Learn Raw React" post ( http://jamesknelson.com/learn-raw-react-no-jsx-flux-es6-webp... ) is one of my most frequently recommended articles for people who want to understand the basics of React without any buzzwords, and his new site builds on that approach with a bunch of interactive examples.
