Personal blog · blog.dijit.sh · on HN as dijitsystemsprogramming
Jan Harasym's personal blog at blog.dijit.sh covers systems and programming. Since 2014, 4 different Hacker News readers have linked it 72 times, most often ““DevOps”: a decade of confusion and frustration”. It is still writing: the last post was on 2026-08-26, and you can follow it by feed.
Too few sampled comments (1) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
Linked in one comment as a bare reference alongside other posts on the risks of piping curl to bash. The linked post, "Don't pipe curl to bash", argues against that practice.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 1 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
I mean, it's not a meme.. I included a few more "private" words than I should and I even tried to narrate things to prove I wasn't an AI. https://blog.dijit.sh/gcp-the-only-good-cloud/ Not sure what else I should do, but it's pretty clear that it's not AI written (mostly because it's incoherent) even without grammar mistakes.

HN discussionI wish more people would use something that's not US backed honestly. Centralisation is a curse. I don't inherently trust Signal, and you have to because nothing they do is verifiable; I wrote a really hit-and-miss article about this before: https://blog.dijit.sh/i-don-t-trust-signal/

HN discussionI strongly dislike wildcard certificates. I worked in a few places that had a *.company.com which covered, obviously, everything under that domain. That meant if that wildcard cert leaked then our EV cert for, say, checkout.company.com would be essentially compromised too. Not to mention. If you have a wildcard cert it's rather likely you're passing those certs around servers, lots of scope for leakage. I really thi…

HN discussionI'm quite sad that they're doing the wildcard thing. There are RFCs stating the problems they cause[0]. It would have been nice to steer people away from this awful security practice. I wrote a very opinionated and ranty blog post which goes into more detail ( but strongly implies people lazy :( ) https://blog.dijit.sh/please-stop-advocating-wildcard-certif... HN discussionI posted about this 3 years ago[0] and I was met with the following (not verbatim): > "The amount of people who live in the world who do not change their default OS settings is higher than those who live in foreign countries" > "it is computationally expensive to read Accept-Language vs geoIP" > "obviously companies know what they're doing here" I have seen only a few applications using the accept-language header, G…

HN discussionI made a similar ranty blog post about devops. I was surprised by the amount of history and misconception that exists around the term. The term was originally intended as “Agile Systems Administration” but came about at the same time as a talk titled 100 deploys a day. So people conflated the two, and it didn’t help that the conference was a portmaneau of “Developers, Operations days” to encourage it being a confere…

HN discussionYes they do. I have a little "dance" I have to do to change my store back to the UK (I'm British) and you need a valid british credit/debit card and address to switch stores to the UK store... I live in Sweden now and I got a bit bent out of shape when I moved and discovered this was the case. HN discussionI was this way with iTunes for a long time. iTunes successfully turned me off pirating music, why would I do it when I can pay 99p for a song and have all the metadata correct, including album art, perfectly synced to all my devices in perpetuity? HN discussionI share the observation that we are living in a "rent economy" of the things we pay for, especially intellectual property or creative works. I've noticed it happening slowly over time, but there are dangers[0] even if you believe you "own" your media. There are no good solutions, people are willing to trade ownership for convenience because /mostly/ you're getting the same value- why do you care if you can't access…
