HN discussionWe Germans shouldn't forget that in 2009 our government tried to implement a similar kind of surveillance. This lead to Tauss leaving the social democrats and join the Pirate Party. http://www.wedesoft.de/tauss-against-censorship.html

HN discussionI did something similar in Ruby but using GCC as a "JIT" compiler for image processing (software [1], thesis [2]). I can really recommend JIT compilation for doing array processing. [1] http://www.wedesoft.de/hornetseye-api/ [2] http://www.wedesoft.de/downloads/thesis_wedekind.pdf EDIT: In my approach I didn't go through the Ruby AST though. Rather I used the approach of injecting "GCCVariables" which emit C code in…

HN discussionI used the Zumo platform with a Raspberry Pi W instead of an Arduino board. I added a cardboard casing to house all the components. https://www.wedesoft.de/robot/2018/06/21/zumo/ Update: Also see Explaining Computers video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZSiqj0NZgU

HN discussionI can recommend having a look at GOOPS [1] (GNU Guile's implementation of CLOS) for inspiration. It provides multiple dispatch and facilitates overloading of existing functions (such as "+"). [1] http://www.wedesoft.de/oop-with-goops.html

HN discussionThanks for posting this. I wrote a whole thesis about computer vision using Ruby instead of C/C++ [1]. Now I am working on computer vision with GNU Guile (Scheme) [2]. Not that I have convinced many people apart from myself about it ;) [1] http://www.wedesoft.de/ruby-computer-vision-thesis.html [2] https://github.com/wedesoft/aiscm

HN discussionYes, it does. The JIT compiler doesn't work on ARM, but otherwise it's fine. This blog post explains how one person got Racket on an Android phone w/ARM: http://www.wedesoft.de/racket-on-android.html

HN discussionI did something similar with Ruby. I used GCC and on-the-fly linking for JIT compilation: http://www.wedesoft.de/hornetseye-api/

HN discussionSomewhat related: I've developed a library for operations involving multi-dimensional arrays [1, 2]. When possible it uses GCC for jit-compilation to achieve higher performance. require 'multiarray' include Hornetseye # Object lazy(4) { |i| i + 2 } # Sequence(INT): # [ 2, 3, 4, 5 ] lazy(3, 2) { |x, y| x } # MultiArray(INT,2): # [ [ 0, 1, 2 ], # [ 0, 1, 2 ] ] lazy(3, 2) { |x, y| x + 1 } # MultiArray(INT,2): # [ [ 1,…
