What Hacker News says?

  1. I wrote about Credit Card forms a while back as well. http://www.jasonlotito.com/programming/what-i-know-about-des... Anyways, you mention in your post: "Making something a simple form that is fully internationalized and has useful validation is no where near as easy as they would like us to believe." It's not easy, but it's not as time consuming and as difficult as you think it is. Getting the phone numbers right d…

  3. I wrote two articles with the same goal, using simple rules describing when you should simplify. I also cover cyclomatic complexity, which you seem to want to describe. Regardless, the two rules I focus on: * Idents are intents to modularize http://www.jasonlotito.com/programming/blocks/ * Comments indicate future refactoring http://www.jasonlotito.com/programming/comments/ They are both covered here:

  5. There is actual evidence to back up his original statement, and even to say that nesting increases defects. It's called cyclomatic complexity, and can be tested for quite easily. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclomatic_complexity I wrote an article on a similar concept here: http://www.jasonlotito.com/programming/blocks/ It covers one method I use to reduce the complexity of my functions.

  7. For a simple review, I wrote up my initial experience with Silvrback, after migrating over a blog from WordPress. http://jasonlotito.com/over-the-us I should note that I've been very happy with Silvrback. It's easy to use, fast, and works as expected.

  9. Assuming the quality remains good, I'd really like this. Especially knowing money would go to the author. Are you focusing just on ad revenue, or are you looking into other ways to bring in money (like subscriptions that remove ads, etc). I wrote an article recently about how social news sites are hurting brand recognition for smaller sites, so it's nice to see what amounts to a "social news site" that puts the bran…

  11. It's not. At least, I've never seen the movie. I forgot where I heard that. So I googled it. In a search looking for that exact quote, I came up with only a few links. All from either comments I made previously or a blog post. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2504632 That was where I originally used it. I was proud of it, mostly because it was short and to the point. I'm usually not short and to the point. Anyway…
