What Hacker News says?

  1. A colleague of mine recently wrote a post about automating an Nginx reverse proxy for Docker containers: http://jasonwilder.com/blog/2014/03/25/automated-nginx-rever...

  3. There's been some comparisons in the past. http://logz.io/blog/fluentd-logstash/ https://www.pandastrike.com/posts/20150807-fluentd-vs-logsta... http://jasonwilder.com/blog/2013/11/19/fluentd-vs-logstash/

  5. Sure, that’s a valid concern. I think there are some other aspects of projects to consider than only the the org vs individual distinction though. For example, I first wrote about nginx-proxy and docker-gen 4 years ago ( http://jasonwilder.com/blog/2014/03/25/automated-nginx-rever... ). Since then, both projects have gone through continued releases with bug fixes, updates and new features. Between the two projects,…

  7. (Disclaimer: I am a Fluentd maintainer) Here are some comparisons out in the wild (Note: neither of them is a Logstash or Fluentd maintainer afaik) - http://jasonwilder.com/blog/2013/11/19/fluentd-vs-logstash/ - https://blog.deimos.fr/2014/05/13/logstash-vs-fluentd/ Also, if you have any question or doubt about Fluentd, please feel free to email me at kiyoto@treasure-data.com

  9. So HA only updates when chef runs (every 15 mins or so)? And when nodes are deleted, I guess something else has to clean them from chef? You'll also have to add these hosts to monitoring config. I implemented something similar with puppet/mcollective/SQS years back. Poor man's service discovery. Here are some other options that, if you can handle the complexity of running Zookeper (or similar), are probably a bit cl…

  11. I wrote up a post with one way to do that: http://jasonwilder.com/blog/2014/03/25/automated-nginx-rever... You can try nginx-proxy that wraps up the approach in a docker container. See https://registry.hub.docker.com/u/jwilder/nginx-proxy/ . Run that on your host and start your other containers on the host with VIRTUAL_HOST env variables and it will set up virtual host mappings via nginx automatically.
