Too few sampled comments (1) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

One HN commenter links Jeaye's post on NoScript, the browser script-blocking extension, to say that a migrated version of it is not a complete clone of the original. The comment does not assess the writing.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 1 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I can highly recommend Github pages, which I use for https://blog.jeaye.com/ The HN hug of death has never brought it down, since Github handles all of the scaling.

  7. I recently wrote about my experience using NixOS on my VPS [1]; it's truly a very different way of approaching systems administration and Nix is at the heart of it. While I think the Nix expression language has a negative impact on usability, Nix still ends up being a net gain for not only entire OSs, but also reproducible environments for packages on many other OSs. 1: https://blog.jeaye.com/2017/07/30/nixos-revisi…

  9. For months, I've had an issue with the native Rocket League client (which is otherwise superb), where workshop maps show up as entirely black, as described here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/252950/discussions/3/17343364... I've even tried running Steam in a Debian-based Docker container (planning a write up on this for https://blog.jeaye.com/ ), to see if having libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0 around would fix the problem. Ala…

  13. I did a similar thing to help me land an apartment 5 years ago, using Clojure: https://blog.jeaye.com/2017/02/28/clojure-apartments/ However, my approach didn't include these map visuals; that's a great idea and a nice execution!

  15. > I wondered why there’s a reduce in clojure.core but no fold? (It’s just a different arity of reduce that’s missing the initial state.) There is literally an arity of reduce which skips the initial state. Check out `(doc reduce)`. > No tuple type? Vectors are tuples. “What if one of the vectors is of a different length?” I gasped as I clutched my pearl monads. `s/tuple` is the answer to that question. > This ties i…

  21. Writing the packaging expressions should not be harder than writing the program, for the average developer. The average developer doesn't know FP, at this point. Nix needs: 1. Approachability for those not indoctrinated in lazy, declarative, functional programming (i.e. Haskell); nope, Nix Pills are not sufficient for the average dev 2. Editor tooling to help guide the writing of expressions (just as anyone learning…

  23. I run https://blog.jeaye.com/ on Github Pages, but I manually build with Jekyll locally, with a publish script, and then force push the built site + assets to the gh-pages branch. This allows me to use all sorts of Jekyll plugins which Github won't whitelist. I'm currently writing a post detailing how all of this works, for anyone interested.
