What Hacker News says?
That is the second most important thing why I'm using Firefox, I sync my passwords via my own instance of the sync server https://jeena.net/firefox-sync-15 . I don't even trust Mozilla not to do something stupid with my passwords (by accident) and Firefox was always the only browser which allowed to use your own sync solution.

HN discussionI set it up 2015 https://jeena.net/firefox-sync-15 and it's running on my server ever since mostly without problems. I think it hang one time so I needed to restart it but otherwise great software, even though the documentation on how to install it was kind of non existent back then. But now that also improved a lot in addition that it's now easy to use on Android too.

HN discussionSo, suprise suprise, my 6 years old blogpost continues to be spot on https://jeena.net/paypal that is when I deleted my PayPal account. But it was not all dance on roses after that, suprisingly many only offer PayPal as a way to pay them, so I always have to try to contact them and to try to explain and to ask for another way to pay. Most of the time they won't/can't help me.

HN discussionSync with my mobile and all the other devices (4 other computers) is one reason why I use Firefox. It's because it's the only browser, as far as I know, which lets me run my own sync server and offers a open source implementation of it. https://jeena.net/firefox-sync-15

HN discussionIt was about two years ago I closed my G+ account because of that https://jeena.net/gplus and I just had a look at my G+ account (which I closed) and there are posts that I have been using hangouts and some YouTube comment too. So I assume it is not possible to really close a G+ account.

HN discussionI have events on my website https://jeena.net/events/ plain HTML marked up with h-event http://microformats.org/wiki/h-event and I can receive RSVPs with help of https://www.w3.org/TR/webmention/ It was fairly easy to implement, the only problem is that not many of the people I know have software which lets them RSVP too, therefor I also connected it to Facebook.

HN discussionIt had the exact opposite effect for me. I used Spotify for a couple of years and basically only listened to the same playlists over and over again. Only when they forced people to use Facebook to log in I stopped paying and using their service and suddenly a whole new world oppened for me. I started using SoundCloud, Jammendo and YouTube to find new music from outside of the mainstream and never looked back. This w…

HN discussionThat's kind of like I do it [1], I only have a RSS file and the mp3 uploaded to the server. I send that RSS link to that one iTunes service so it indexes the RSS file so that all the podcast apps which use their API for their search can find my podcast and subscribe to the RSS file on my server and download the mp3's from my server. For the gear, I went fairly cheap, I got a Zoom H5 [2], which is super small, light…
