  3. I was hopping they would just use the compute module[1] and you could replace/upgrade or even use it in another project. In the teardown you can see there is only one board. [2] I would have also though it would cost less but I guess integrating it directly is even cheaper. [1] https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-compute-module... 5. I was lucky to get a pre-release version to test, and I decided to tear it down before I started trying it out. I posted this blog post with detailed pictures of the insides, and some more details and performance benchmarks: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/raspberry-pi-400-tear... There are also a couple videos linked in the post, if you're more visually-inclined. Fun fact: the Pi 400 (and Compute Module 4) b…

  11. I've been using OBS for a couple months for live streams on YouTube (see https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/ansible-101-jeff-geer... ), and I have had rock-solid reliability, using an external mic interface, an external camera (displayed PIP), and sharing one of two displays during some instructional sessions. One thing to keep in mind, though—unless you have a dedicated video card, and it's supported by OBS (th…

  13. I know I've been getting a number of questions around livestreaming for churches lately (since I used to do that a lot more in the past), and I've been gathering my thoughts in a blog post here: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/how-livestream-masses... It depends mainly on the budget, but with Easter coming up (probably _the_ major day in many (if not most) Christian churches), it seems many groups are scrambl…

  15. I wrote about it a bit earlier this year: https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2020/how-i-livestream-obs-... But I'm considering doing a little more in the realm of 'how its made' type videos, because you can do most of the things 'professional' video producers do on a budget, depending on how many nice things you want to do in a video.

  19. If you use an OS that handles high DPI very well, and where 98% of all apps handle it just as well (including resolution scaling), it is an absolute joy to my eyes to be able to use 4K at the same effective resolution (so basically 1080p, but double the resolution, double the sharpness). Every time I use a 'non-retina' type of display (like an old laptop I use for testing or my 19" 1080p monitor), it feels like I'm…

  21. Jeff Geerling just did a video with a cluster of 4 Framework Desktop main boards. He put a decent amount of work into Exo and concluded it’s a VC Rugpull… abandoned as soon as it won some attention. He also explored several other open source AI scale out libraries, and reported that they’re generally way less mature than tooling for traditional scientific cluster computing. https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2025/i-c…

  25. I've used this for years when passing large files between systems in weird network environments, it's almost always flawless. For some more exotic testing, I was able to run my own magic wormhole relay[1], which let me tweak some things for faster/more reliable huge file copies. I still hate how often Google Drive will fall over when you throw a 10s-of-GB file at it. [1] https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2023/my-own…
