What Hacker News says?
I am no fan of digital ID's but did he really need a FOIA request to break open the idea that Apple were thinking of adding drivers license to their native app and talking to the DVLA in various states about it? >“How did it happen? Why had I or no one ever heard of it, given I know a lot of folks in the government tech space?” Apparently this guy doesnt know much ... but enough to waste some peoples time with usele…

HN discussionI think this fits part of what you're talking about. In Brazil, there's Vade Mecum, a popular app (some Brazilian tech sites say it's one of the most downloaded local apps) allowing someone to take the law with them. It's searchable, and apparently popular because when a police officer or anyone annoying tries to get away with something illegal, one can just open the app and look up the law regarding whatever is bei…

HN discussionBut it's sort of what you meant. I see "Open in Dropbox" and "Open in Camera+" quite frequently. Here's more on how that works: http://www.iphonejd.com/iphone_jd/2012/01/tip-missing-apps-i... The URL style technique is supported as well, you can send data to another app by using it's URL scheme. It's not a perfect implementation (you can't change the defaults like mail://), but I believe that's intentional.
