Why HN links it

Personal site of a web developer. Commenters link it for a dark-mode CSS write-up and for a blog built with shared client/server JavaScript, and as a portfolio in freelancer threads.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 6 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. EDIT: Just wrote a quick article elaborating/demoing what I'm talking about: https://www.jbernier.com/dark-mode/ Also I made a small mistake in the code there, it's `isDarkMode = window.matchMedia('(prefers-color-scheme: dark)').matches`

  3. Cool stuff. Was planning to do something similar but never got around to implementing the client-side rendering bit ( http://www.jbernier.com ). The codebase I work on at work is also isomorphic JS with React. Sharing client/server code is definitely the way to go.

  5. You guys are all totally missing the point. The whole concept of an X hour work week is stupid for most of us on HN in knowledge intensive industries. It makes sense if the work you're doing is a direct function of time - think receptionists, cashiers, phone customer service, assembly line workers. If the work is knowledge intensive, then your output is generally not a mere function of hours worked. In software engi…

  13. Right. It's not that software engineers are going to go away, just that more and more cookie-cutter software will be buildable by less-technical people (eg. like what Wordpress has done for basic websites and what Unity has done for game development). Advances in NLP and A.I. will probably make code more English-like (eg. like SQL), or at the very least abstract away all the syntax quirks and other tedious low-level…
