What Hacker News says?

  1. GPS jamming is already thought to have caused one drone accident, with fatality: http://lemondronor.com/blog/index.php/2013/3/gps-loss-kicked... And there have been several close calls already, with passenger jets: https://spectrum.ieee.org/faa-files-reveal-a-surprising-thre... Planes don't need radar, transponders, or even radio to fly, but they're all very important for safety.

  3. The article mentions North Korea's frequent GPS jamming, but doesn't mention that it's suspected as a cause of the fatal drone accident last May: http://lemondronor.com/blog/index.php/2013/3/gps-loss-kicked... I haven't been able to find any more recent info about the incident.

  5. A few people have been killed by RC helicopters (see e.g. http://abcnews.go.com/US/minute-mechanical-error-led-teens-r... ). A man was killed by a larger drone when, it's suspected, the GPS was jammed: http://lemondronor.com/blog/index.php/2013/3/gps-loss-kicked...

  6. Two or three years ago it seemed that there was a lot of hacking happening on the AR.Drone: We had the Drone Games (née Drone Olympics), the ar-drone node module was under active development, and there was even an effort to write a replacement firmware. Now, http://dronegames.co/ is still touting the 2013 Games. Parrot has released many new drones since the AR.Drone, but from what I can tell it's not that the hacker…

  7. That was probably the seminal article in my computer career. It was the first serious program I wrote, in 1989. The pseudocode for the essential routines were relatively straightforward for me to translate into Commodore BASIC on my C64, but getting acceptable speed to see evolution happen was a challenge. I started out by using the standard tricks I knew (e.g. "." in place of "0", because it's significantly faster…
