HN discussionReminds me of the PhD Comics "Emergency button" ( http://phdcomics.com/ , bottom right) redirecting to a fake journal article and a similar tool for Tinder redirecting to a spreadsheet. In the case of PhD Comics is clearly an inside joke (I guess). For other tools I find it a clearly desired yet not the most honest feature.

HN discussion>The main problem with salaries, career opportunities and so on is apparently that the number of people pursuing careers in science has risen to meet, then exceed, the increased funding. (Plus probably that an increasing share of the money is being funnelled off into university administration salaries, Elsevier and Bertelsmann and so on.) The reason is much more fundamental: the Profzi Scheme, http://www.phdcomics.c…

HN discussionThat still doesn't mean titles were banned by the U.S. Constitution, as you claim it did. All you're showing is that the US has a lower regard for formalities than the UK (in the mid-20th century). While I don't think pointing to one film is good evidence, I agree, based on what I know from other things. However, that doesn't show "disregard for formalities" only less regard for formalities. A decade later, you stil…

HN discussion> [1]: http://phdcomics.com/comics.php?f=1162 So, forgive me if I'm being naive because I don't really have professional experience in the field of cancer research, but this comic makes it sound like a cure for cancer is impossible because it would have to deal with million different forms and shapes that it can take, but, theoretically, wouldn't it be possible to attack the root problem instead, and find a way to b…
