Why HN links it

Cited for technical posts on Apple development: one on Objective-C syntax changes the compiler is making, and one on per-application AirPlay audio output via CoreAudio on OS X.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

Thoughts on software engineering, heavily focussed on iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Mac OS X

What Hacker News says?

  1. We're not assuming anything; they're actually doing it. For instance: http://joris.kluivers.nl/blog/2012/03/13/new-objectivec-lite... The language may be decades old, but clearly Apple is continuing to advance the compiler to improve the language's syntax and verbosity without breaking the runtime.

  3. Since 10.8, OS X has had native Airplay support. Even if your Mac doesn't have the hardware to do Airplay video, you can select Airplay as a sound output device. Applications can output to Airplay via the CoreAudio API, documented at http://joris.kluivers.nl/blog/2012/07/25/per-application-air... . Of course, Windows users are pretty screwed.
