What Hacker News says?

  1. really? I'm the guy that suggested the name 'stackoverflow.com' to Jeff, and at the time I suggested it it was NOT registered. see: http://jcooney.net/post/2010/08/26/Back-in-the-day-preferred...

  3. I think it's a balance that each person has to set to the "right" level for them based on the stage of their career, and the trajectory they would like it to take. What's "right" for someone who wants to become a project manager is different than what will be "right" for someone who wants to be an architect or strike out and found their own company. This topic is of some interest to me - I am co-authoring a book cal…

  11. I loved Cw back in 2004. I even wrote an article on it http://jcooney.net/post/2004/10/06/OMG-Ccf89-is-Awesome!-You... unfortunately after several blog and hosting platform migrations it got lost. "retail" C# has mostly caught up on many of the cool features of Cw.

  13. I also really enjoyed this book, and wrote up some notes on what I took away from it that I thought could apply to software engineering https://jcooney.net/post/2017/08/03/skunkworks.html

It seems like another instance where all the good names were taken. http://jcooney.net/post/2012/04/03/Transaction-Argument-Clas...

  17. For years Microsoft was/has been prevented from squeezing out 3rd party developers by the DoJ/Consent Decree. Why do you think Microsoft gives away an anti-virus product that you have to download and install separately? Because if they bundled it with Windows anti-virus vendors would lawyer up. http://jcooney.net/post/2010/05/03/Why-doesnt-feature-X-exis...

  18. I guess I'll believe it when I see it. "The enterprise" is a fairly amorphous term, but most enterprises I've worked in either didn't have a wireless network you could connect to (for security reasons) or made you go through a process with each device that would make a colo-rectal surgeon blush. Enterprise IT want to lock down and control things (usually un-necessarily IMO), and I don't think the iPad exposes enough…
