Why HN links it

HN readers link Joseph Mate's posts on how many concurrent connections a server can handle and a complexity estimator tool. The comments are bare links or citations and do not judge the writing.

  1. If you've been consistently redeeming free games from Epic you might already have it. It was free on 2020-08-06[1]. [1] https://josephmate.github.io/EpicFreeGamesList/

  3. Here are the ten most recent pages on my list, with [A] for article view working correctly, [B] for article view being broken, [W] for article view (and thus offline access) being completely unavailable: - [B] https://spotbugs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/running.html (just completely mangled, starts with “-sortByClass=filepath:”, that is, skipping around half of the actual page) - [W] https://web.itu.edu.tr/~dalyanda/m…

  5. I was only able to get to 840,000 open connections with my experiment. My machine only has 8GB of memory. https://josephmate.github.io/2022-04-14-max-connections/ Is there anyway for the TCP connections share memory in kernel space? My experiment only uses two 8 byte buffers in userspace.

  9. This won't replace your IDE. Code discussions are handled better by github or gitlab. However, if you want to share links to your code with others that let them navigate all the way down to the JDK, then give this a try. If you don't really know what to do with this, then have some fun. I challenge you to start from JDK's JarFile[1] and see if you can reach my favourite class: HashMap. Before I fell in love with Int…

  11. Probably a lot depending on your workload. Here's a 2015 article about getting to 2 million concurrent connections[1] with Phoenix channels. They used a bigger rack space box, but it was 7 years ago and Phoenix and Elixir have both improved a lot here. Here's another example of someone hitting a laptop with 840,000 connections[2] on an intel mac with the following specs: > 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600…
