Too few sampled comments (4) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Justin Meiners' pages as archives and resources: pre-rendered FF7 backgrounds, an archived HTML copy of SICP, and an LC-3 virtual machine guide for practising bitwise operations.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

HN discussionI argue that (good) literate programming can make code literature. Your program is told as a sort of story and ought to contain background info, thought processes, and rationale for decisions. Additionally macros can be used to reuse code at build ('tangle') time that your underlying language may not otherwise support. For example if I have some constants i need throughout a python program, I might put it in somethi…

HN discussionOne fun way to get familiar with bitwise operations is writing a virtual machine, as it involves a lot of masking and shifting bits from instructions to extract relevant pieces (dare I say bits) of information. If anyone is interested in going this route, I recommend LC-3, as it's very straightforward. https://www.jmeiners.com/lc3-vm/
