Why HN links it
Linked as an explanation of Scala's CanBuildFrom, the factory-style builder object that returns a collection builder. It is a Scala write-up cited in a thread on Scala and Clojure.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 1 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

HN discussionhttp://www.dotkam.com/2011/07/06/noram-db-if-it-does-not-fit... I agree PR and lots of BUZZ makes it really difficult to choose the right DB. My latest obsession is Riak => Basho is VERY honest, and quick in helping you out and telling where and how Riak can help you, and most importantly what would NOT be a good fit for Riak. HN discussion1) if you don't write your own collection you don't need CanBuildFrom 2) What is so hard to understand about CanBuildFrom[-From, -Elem, +To]. It's an object that will return a builder for a collection: See http://www.dotkam.com/2012/05/08/scala-fun-with-canbuildfrom... for an explanation. In Java one would call it a Factory ;-)

HN discussionThe “Dad” Problem My kids are navigating the ways of middle/high school: one is deep in ionic bonding in Chemistry, another one is grappling with graphing sine waves in Pre-Calculus. I can explain these concepts to them with words, or I can scribble on a napkin (which I love doing), but some concepts just need to move. They need to be visualized. I could write a Python program or a D3.js visualization for every sing…
