What Hacker News says?
Probably a HN article on its own, but also related [1]. It's about timestamp parsing using SIMD instructions (among other optimizations). I've noticed when I had a toy HFT project that this type of thinking is needed. [1] https://kholdstare.github.io/technical/2020/05/26/faster-int...

HN discussionAlternative question: I am looking for the fastest online unknown size integer parser possible in C/C++. The best I have heard is Boost::Spirit [0]. [0]: https://kholdstare.github.io/technical/2020/05/26/faster-int...

HN discussionI see some confusion in the comments about C++ moves. I wrote an article in 2013 after it clicked for me: https://kholdstare.github.io/technical/2013/11/23/moves-demy... . It goes over motivation, how it works under the hood etc, has diagrams if you are a more visual learner.

HN discussionLooks to be using a lot of similar ideas to the ones explained well in these articles: https://kholdstare.github.io/technical/2020/05/26/faster-int... http://0x80.pl/articles/simd-parsing-int-sequences.html

HN discussion17 cycles still seems pretty slow compared to the methods explored in this article, which got the result down to 0.75ns (~3 cycles?) (for integer strings of a known length): https://kholdstare.github.io/technical/2020/05/26/faster-int... Most of the overhead is dealing with the variable length input, minus signs, and bounds checking.
