I explained more details in the previous blog post ( https://kokada.dev/blog/from-gaming-rig-to-personal-computer... ), but my current setup replicates a SteamOS experience in NixOS using the Jovian-NixOS project. So basically the same thing, the system boots in gaming mode by default and I can switch to the KDE based desktop by select "Switch to Desktop" in Steam's Big Picture mode. So no, I am not using KDE for ga…

HN discussionBecause I had a good experience with KDE on SteamOS. This whole system is setup as a SteamOS-like experience using Jovian-NixOS (I wrote about it here: https://kokada.dev/blog/from-gaming-rig-to-personal-computer... ). Still, as far I remember SteamOS is still on KDE5 and uses X11, while I am using KDE6 on Wayland. So not exactly the same.

HN discussionI think this is a mostly fair criticism of nixos. Nixos has a lot of powerful tools, but if you don't need them, they can get in the way. Some assorted notes: > unless you run nix-collect-garbage periodically nix.gc.automatic = true; nix.gc.options = "--delete-older-than 10d"; > the constant cycle of rebuild → fix → rebuild → fix → rebuild I've found this useful to eliminate the rebuild loop: https://kokada.dev/blog…

HN discussionThat is also my dream, iPads Pro are very expensive but the hardware is so good (that is including the Magic Keyboard). BTW OP, have you ever tried a hybrid Chromebook tablet like Lenovo Duet 3? This is my favorite device for travel exactly because it is so good as a small Linux machine. Crostini fits the "I want to run a Linux VM". You can even use postmarketOS if you want an even more fully Linux experience. I wro…
