Too few sampled comments (4) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Linked for a personal site with notebook pages on tech support, a projects page, a digital marketing podcast and a move from Medium to GitHub Pages. The comments mostly point out broken links rather than praise the writing.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. When Rand last posted about this it inspired me to look into other channels such as email and social. Basically clicks are disappearing for ALL channels, this isn't just a Google thing, it's a digital marketing thing as a whole. My thoughts here: https://kolemcrae.com/no-more-clicks-makes-me-sad/

  5. While this certainly gets into semantics, I don't think you need a "blog" but a website can help a lot. I wrote about why most smaller companies don't need a blog here: https://kolemcrae.com/notebook/humblesuggestion.html You may say: isn't that a blog post? I would disagree. You can read how my website isn't really a blot here: https://kolemcrae.com/notebook/notablog.html I'd say a website is fantastic for your bra…

  7. I actually implemented a rule for my website: anytime I write anything and cite a link, I always also include the internet archive url as well just in case. If it's not been archived yet I submit it to be. as an example: "You don't have to trust me on this one, here's an article with [a bunch of data] | [*Archive link in case of link rot]" from: https://kolemcrae.com/notebook/virtue.html It's not perfect, but it hel…

  9. My main use case is longevity. I use it as part of the extended brain idea. Along with my notes I want my citations to be around. Link rot is a serious issue and this solves for it. I bookmark in pinboard and every couple of months download the offline archive and back it up, meaning I never have to worry about important things I've bookmarked going away. I'm a little over the top though... https://kolemcrae.com/not…

  17. I decided to re-frame this a bit. I have a website but don't have a blog. (here if curious: https://kolemcrae.com ) It may SEEM blog like though. There are articles with my opinions and lots of great info. They just aren't in a chronological order or dated. I go in depth here: https://kolemcrae.com/notebook/notablog.html Instead of "why I don't have a blog" maybe one should reframe it as "why do I have nothing to sh…

  19. I think about this often and it's very scary to me. I wrote a whole article on how I try to achieve longevity. https://kolemcrae.com/notebook/longevity.html I also switched my whole site to pure html and css, but it depends on Bootstrap, which maybe is something I should remove and only add the classes I use.

  27. Perhaps a counterpoint to this post [1] yesterday? I sympathize, but I'm not sure I buy it. > There are no dates Perhaps not here, but the author's Current Projects page [2] certainly has one. Anyone who's worked at a large enough company will know that documentation goes out of date constantly, and I figure something similar applies for personal websites. If anything, blogging does a much better job of showing its…
