Why HN links it

HN commenters link kreya.app mainly as a product: a gRPC-focused, non-Electron Postman alternative. Comments mention the app and its docs and comparison pages, not the writing.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 10 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. Looks very nice; I've also given up with Postman. gRPC support would probably get Bruno into my daily workflow immediately. I spent a couple hours in Postman trying to get gRPC to work and could not- the .proto files were never used successfully, and I ended up having better experiences with Kreya [0] and grpcui [1]. 3. https://kreya.app/docs/getting-started I see issues here! > Apple Silicon (M1) is not yet supported. And on Linux, > you may install Kreya by downloading the tarball. Note that both libgtk-3 and libwebkit2gtk-4.0 dependencies are required. Install them manually if they aren't present on your system. libwebkit2gtk is, itself, _an embedded browser_, 44MB installed size, plus dependencies. It's convenient that you can…

  5. We use the WebView approach for Kreya[1], though not with Tauri. We had some occassional issues with Chromium/Safari differences, but otherwise it works fine. We use WebView2 on Windows, Safari on macOS and WebKit2GTK on Linux. Not shipping a whole Chromium installation on each install and update reduces the installer and on-disk size a lot! 11. Kreya[1] does exactly that. It stores all it‘s data in easy diffable text formats in the filesystem. Currently kreya is limited to gRPC. However, REST support should land soon. Disclaimer: I‘m one of the creators of Kreya. [1]: https://kreya.app

  15. We are using system webviews for https://kreya.app (not Tauri, but a custom implementation) and the platform differences are seldom a problem... Polyfills fix most of the things and we are running automated end to end test on Linux, which catches most of the issues. IMO the most difficult thing is figuring out how far the users are behind with their webview version, mostly on Linux and macOS. Windows has done thinga…

  17. I'm one of the creators of Kreya [1]. We were one (or the) first to support a fully-offline, git-centric local data storage in this space. Kreya is privacy-first since its first commit five years ago, since we were fed up with Postman and Insomnia. Happy to answer any questions [1] https://kreya.app

  19. Man this hits home... We have similar marketing problems with our product ( https://kreya.app ), even though we think it is much better than competing products. Our "marketing attemps" such as using Show HN (never reached the front page) or publishing blog posts didn't amount to much. Posting on reddit did gain us some traffic, but that went over pretty quickly. We currently rely on organic traffic, but growing this…

  21. Shameless plug, as I'm one of the creators: Kreya is (in our opinion) the most powerful gRPC GUI client out there, but the UI is not as overloaded as the Postman one. REST support and scripting/test integration coming soon as well! https://kreya.app

  27. I would recommend https://kreya.app as the Postman alternative for gRPC. It supports much more features than BloomRPC or Insomnia and has some additional goodies that will help advanced users. For example global authentication configurations or support for easy git syncing. Disclaimer: I am one of the creators of Kreya
