Too few sampled comments (6) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Kyle Kelley's blog for a write-up exploring a `rm -rf`'d Linux system and for the architecture behind tmpnb, which runs disposable IPython notebook containers at Rackspace.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 6 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.
Technical posts by Kyle Kelley on notebooks, infrastructure, distributed systems, security, Python, TypeScript, Rust, and the occasional systems toy.

HN discussion> P.S. found a cool post about rm -rf / in my bookmarks: https://lambdaops.com/rm-rf-remains/ – you can recover a running rm'd Linux machine by using a running shell and /dev/tcp :D Awesome. This dynamic loading of bash plugins is mad.

HN discussionYou wouldn't be able to run any programs from the hard drive, and when you reboot, you'll end up with no operating system. Unless you're running FreeBSD (or Illumos) with ZFS and Boot Environments, in which case you'd just select a backup boot environment and continue working :-) Probably without your home directory though, as that is usually excluded from boot environments. But you can set them up however you want.…

HN discussionKyle (lambdaops) did the architecture: http://lambdaops.com/ipythonjupyter-tmpnb-debuts It's a pretty amazing story about brining full instant on scientific notebooks to everyone. It's running on the High Memory OnMetal instances here at Rackspace. Each container gets 512mb of ram.

HN discussionIt uses tmpnb ( http://lambdaops.com/ipythonjupyter-tmpnb-debuts ) to spin up docker instances of a relatively basic IPython demo. I guess they are a bit overloaded right now. Pretty nice gateway drug to show the benefits of IPython to non-technical folks.
