What Hacker News says?

  1. There's another Inconsolata derivative named "Inconsolata-g" with straight quotes, dotted zeros, and other small fixes to make it a "programmer's font." http://leonardo-m.livejournal.com/77079.html

  3. This is a good font, but to me it's nowhere near as good as Inconsolata-g, the best fixed-width font I've found. http://leonardo-m.livejournal.com/77079.html

  5. Not sure what the downvotes are for. I'm not saying that order doesn't matter with pure functions (which is wrong). I'm saying that the notion that "order doesn't matter" (without qualifications) has been touted as a benefit of pure functions and FP -- and indeed it has. Wrongly, but it has -- and that's an impression many people get from reading such "introductions to FP". In fact, the author of the original post w…

  8. If anyone uses Windows here, note that this font is going to look much worse for you than it does on Mac or Linux. I use the Inconsolata-g variant[1] on Xubuntu and love it, but to my chagrin, it looked wretched on the Windows machine at work: jagged edges everywhere. The Google Web Fonts version of the original Inconsolata — which has apparently been "properly hinted for Windows"[2] — was a major improvement, but s…

  9. There is also Inconsolata-g[1] which is an enhanced version of Inconsolata-dz. I prefer the dotted zero among a few other changes. [1]: http://leonardo-m.livejournal.com/77079.html

Results are mixed, with llvm-gcc generally being slightly slower. There are some benchmarks where it's much slower, and also a few where it's actually faster than GCC. So yeah, there are tasks where LLVM beats GCC in execution t…

  13. I've used Inconsolata exclusively (the original first [1], then the -dz variant [2], then the -g variant [3]) since 2002 or 2003. I've recently switched to Fira Mono [4], designed by the awesome Erik Spiekermann for Mozilla.
