  1. For PCB printing, OSH Park is a highly recommended one: https://oshpark.com/ For PCB assembly, http://www.4pcb.com/ is recommended. Some reviews from Lady Ada: http://www.ladyada.net/library/pcb/manufacturers.html Also check out http://pcbshopper.com/

  5. You can have just the PCB part (without components) made at any of the places on this page: http://www.ladyada.net/library/pcb/manufacturers.html You'll have to buy the connectors and solder them on yourself. It sounds like an adapter kit might have a little market when shipped with a displayport plug, a small power supply, and a fully assembled PCB. Small kickstarter?

  7. Ladyada's guide ( http://www.ladyada.net/learn/arduino/ ) has all of the basics to get you started with the physical parts of hooking up your Arduino. I've glanced at "Lessons in Electric Circuits" ( http://www.ibiblio.org/kuphaldt/electricCircuits/ ) by Tony Kuphaldt, and it seems to cover all of the physics that you would need to get started with hardware hacking. Volume I appears to be the most relevant to you, c…

  15. I will assume removing the radios, or modifying them would indeed void the warranties. On the other hand if the radios were blocked, without direct manipulation (i.e. Faraday cage-ish ideas) if the connectivity fails, is warranty void? An alternative would be to use something Ms Fried built in 2006[0], but more specific. Come to think of it... this might be a small business idea... [0] http://ladyada.net/make/wavebu…

  19. I was! That's the first thing I thought: "I could make a way smaller one of those with a GPS shield on an arduino." http://www.ladyada.net/make/gpsshield/ I figure the bulk is in the battery pack. Altho that baffles me, if I was tasked with building one I'd make it splice into to the tail lights power like a cheap tow adapter kit. edit: Damn, I had to add "make a lojack style tracker for my truck" to my project list…

  23. I've never owned an 808, but I've owned at least 18 hardware synths and samplers, as well as Live, Reason, Rebirth, and lots of softsynths on iOS. I hate softsynths on OS X because it's not stable enough. I have two synths that were made in the 1980s and they don't need any software updates to run. You just plug them in and turn them on. Hardware lasts for a very long time. Software, you don't really buy it, you ren…

I think the first three website you may want to go to for getting familiar with the quick prototyping platforms like Arduino and Beaglebone are: (1) http://learn.adafruit.com (2) https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials (3) http://bildr.org/ The advantage of (1) and (2) is you can quickly order parts right from…

  29. Me too. I built a x0xb0x ( http://www.ladyada.net/make/x0xb0x/ - it's a pretty impressive project, Ladyada does great stuff) a few years ago and play around with it occasionally, but I've realized I'm much better at enjoying other people's music than creating my own.
