  5. I don't get all the ranting. I think the author would be better doing a research about the current technologies for doing websites (as opposed to web apps). For websites I can recommend Bulma, it's an elegant base for modern websites. If you want to manage content for that website you can integrate Hugo an get into the world of static site generators. If you really want to do anything more complex, there is Vue.js.…

  9. The best external Phoenix API tutorial that I've seen is https://lobotuerto.com/blog/building-a-json-api-in-elixir-wi... (which the author has done a great job of keeping up to date), but I think many people would have a hard time finding this blog post. And I 100% agree that it would be great to have a "Building a Phoenix-powered API" section in the official documentation (and I believe the Phoenix team would accep…

  17. Ok here is a guide I wrote for installing & setting up Postgres in Ubuntu. It's in Spanish but you will find your way around: http://lobotuerto.com/blog/2009/07/20/como-instalar-postgres... It covers instalation, setting up the postgres user (the _root_ you want), changing the authentication schema so you can use it for Rails dev (or something else), and finally how to install the Postgres gem for your Ruby.

  21. I really appreciate when an OS, app or site implements dark mode. My OS comes by default in dark mode, I use VSCode with a dark theme, I set dark mode in apps that support it (twitter, reddit, gmail, etc). I have 2 monitors side by side (2560x1440 and 3440x1440) and it's really a lot of light to take in when there is no dark mode available. I like to read a lot during night time, and it was hard not to get burning e…
