Lubutu is a personal blog at lubutu.com about programming and writing. Since 2011, 8 different Hacker News readers have linked it 17 times, most often “Write Out Unicode in Octal”. No feed was found, so read it on the site itself.
Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Lubutu for technical posts on UTF-8 and writing Unicode in octal, and a piece on a Vim-inspired editor with Scheme scripting. Most comments cite the posts as sources rather than judging them.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
As the continuation bytes always bear the payload in the low 6 bits, Connor Lane Smith suggests writing them out in octal[1]. Though that 3 octets of UTF-8 precisely cover the BMP is also quite convenient and easy to remember (but perhaps don’t use that like MySQL did[2]?..). HN discussionI've noticed that the NUL-termination problem [1] has come up a number of times in these comments. If you want a solution to this that isn't so drastic as an object system, perhaps take a look at Usul [2], non-POSIX 'tabular' Unix utilities which use an AWK-style $RS. HN discussionIf anyone's interested, a while back I put together a table of commands available in various versions of ed, from 1st edition UNIX up to POSIX, as well as sam. It's largely academic, but I did find it interesting how features crept in. http://lubutu.com/misc/ed-languages

HN discussionThat's a great article. Do you know when it was written? It's weird how it's just dangling there with all of 2 sentences of context at http://lubutu.com . Also, how do you do the superscripts?!

HN discussion> If I were going to change any single thing about Vim, it would be to make MzScheme scripting support a first class citizen, and slowly re-engineer the backend to be more Emacs styled. Core C (or whatever, but C out of momentum) functions with the rest of the system build up in Scheme. Thank god there are people who share this vision! I have solemnly promised to myself that I will write a new vim in exactly this fa…

HN discussionI don't think that's a fair comparison. Here's a toy trie implementation I've just thrown together in Haskell. It may not be perfect, but I think it's more comparable to your Python. http://lubutu.com/media/temp/trie.hs
