Too few sampled comments (4) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Lucas Meijer's site and his post on modern C++ and Unity game development, which one commenter cites as a source. Other links are to the site itself and a Mono-era demo.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
I have a programmer friend, and his website simply says: I make computers do what I want. Often people pay me to make computers do what they want instead. Lately unity3d.com is doing that a lot. ( http://lucasmeijer.com/ )

HN discussion> 1) It's unusual. Historically, C# is more of a businessy thing, with a bit of game stuff on the side, mainly in the form of scripting. Extremely high performance C# code is even stranger. Unity is C#, no? I remember reading that they are moving most of the traditionally C++ 'backend' engine code to C# now, too. HN discussionWoot! Integrated Debugger This is a big release for mono, I'm huge fan of the project. C# is actually being designed unlike java, and with each new revision is getting much better. Here's a cool demo of a mono REPL: http://lucasmeijer.com/files/messagewindow.swf
