What Hacker News says?

  1. It is not easy to change your habits. I can only share what helped me most to transition to what I do today. I was lucky that I got my role about 2-3 months before the yearly review at which time I got the (anonymous) feedback that developers felt I was not available enough to support them. I remember at the time I responded with the natural reaction of somebody who newly obtained a lead position, I balanced the fee…

  3. This Venn diagram covers most career issues: https://management30.com/blog/redefining-purpose-with-ikigai... The fact is no one does the same job their entire life anymore. CS fields can be a particularly fleeting experience over 28 (tax programs end as you are no longer a youth), and many people get into the field for the wrong reasons. "working in ML", nothing like research on an arbitrary deadline to burn out staff. "Distributed systems" is hard, but working on Julia seems like a natural consolidation of your interests. A 1 year break is a good idea, if you are at the burn-out stage with persistent neck pain, and constant illnesses due to immune system stress. The ikigai chart is pretty good guidance: https://management30.com/wp-content/uploads/2…
