  3. It is ironic considering that 7 out of top 10 most used third party connections on websites are owned by Google. So you can see why there must be some kind of internal struggle at Google. They understand the value of a faster web but they also cannot go after the main cause of the slow web. And this is how technology such as AMP gets invented and makes things worse. https://markosaric.com/google-amp/

  7. I have a personal blog at https://markosaric.com/ . I'm a digital marketer. I've recently gone freelance and I'm trying to find better ways to do website/startup marketing in the world of all the privacy regulations and big tech companies controlling a lot of the web while an increasing number of people not liking all the ads and all the tracking. So I've posted about topics such as: How to promote your SaaS using e…

  9. Bots. Spam ruins it for everyone. Cloudflare, for example, provide an analytics platform based off of logs, but it overreports visits by a huge amount for most cases because javascript is a good filter for most bots. Here's Cloudflare's page on why there is a discrepancy between their numbers and GA-type services: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/36003768411... And here's a blog post by a self-hosted…

  11. This looks like an ePrivacy (cookie) consent dialog, and not a GDPR dialog? https://markosaric.com/wp-content/uploads/gdpr-banner-on-mob... It's asking for consent to store cookies "to power statistics".

  13. Yeah, this article was submitted by a SaaS marketing expert: https://markosaric.com/ There are some misleading parts of the article, which makes it even worse (e.g. by default Google uses the data from GA to profile users).

  17. I've gone down the Google-free rabbit hole myself lately. Being Facebook-free is so much easier than Google-free but here's what I switched to: Chrome browser -> Firefox Google search -> DuckDuckGo (StartPage for specific searches that DuckDuckGo doesn't do well at) Gmail -> ProtonMail Maps -> OpenStreetMap Translate -> DeepL Analytics -> removed them from my site completely so no tracking scripts at all Details: ht…

  27. It is. I've had several discussions with Marko Saric (co-founder of Plausible), and I doubt he'd've let this slide even if his co-founder was Mark Zuckerberg. The author of “Only 9% of visitors give GDPR consent to be tracked”[0] is hardly the sort of person to secretly track users in violation of the GDPR. Which part of Plausible's source code[1] is doing the tracking, exactly? [0]: https://markosaric.com/gdpr-cons…
