What Hacker News says?
That LLM seems to rather mindlessly reproduce the Rust marketing idea that it is basically impossible or a huge effort to write safe C code. But yes, compilers are also really good at removing run-time checks also across function boundaries. I am experimenting with the idea to use exactly this to prove static safety of C code ( https://uecker.codeberg.page/2026-05-22.html ) and this turns out to be quite promising.

HN discussionWell, these things were discussed in previous articles the previous one is linked at the very top. This one explains how you can avoid the use of trampolines in GCC 17: https://uecker.codeberg.page/2026-07-14.html The documentation is here: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Constructing-Calls.html There are many language features can be rewritten by hand into other simpler forms, you could rewrite loops into gotos,…

HN discussionHere is my take on this: https://uecker.codeberg.page/2025-07-20.html (you could also create a version with capacity, of course, but I like it this way).

HN discussionI think we agree on this. Fil-C does not ensure this. Showing the absence of run-time errors at compile-time is a hard problem, and the most realistic solution in general is via model checkers which I think would be the ideal solution, but we would need better tooling. Dependently types languages are also interesting. In the context of existing tooling and C, there is also a lot of potential in using the optimizer t…

HN discussionThis is how I designed my vector in C. Note it is still not frozen as you can use realloc just fine (even with good performance) and/or external tracking of the capacity in tight loops. https://uecker.codeberg.page/2025-07-20.html I probably will still add a version with capacity, because people may insist on it, but personally I like the one without much more so far.
