Why HN links it

HN readers link Matt Butcher's posts on Go dependency management with Glide, building a Vim cheat sheet, and how Perl and CPAN handled packages. Comments cite them as sources, not as praise.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I personally consider awk, sed, grep, cut, etc. to be "part" of bash. I don't think I ever write a script without invoking those venerable tools at least once. I often have many pipes, such as some_command \ | grep -E 'some.*regex$' \ | sed -e 's/erase_text//g' \ | sed -e 's/erase_more//g' \ | awk '{ print $2 }' \ | cut -d ':' -f 1 I used to reach for Perl one-liners a lot, and still do sometimes when I need a gross…

  3. I have built my own cheat sheet over the months I have been using Vim. I highly recommend doing that after you are familar with the basics. My next step is to work on putting it in Vim itself via a documentation plugin. I got the idea from this [1] blog post. [1] http://technosophos.com/2014/10/09/create-built-in-vim-cheat...

  7. IIRC, and I could be wrong, CPAN was the first to go down the route that many modern toolchains now provide. We've looked at it. In fact, the original creator of Glide (Go package manager) wrote about Perl and CPAN when talking about Go at http://technosophos.com/2015/09/02/dont-let-go-be-condemned-... .
