Too few sampled comments (1) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

The linked post is about how people draw horses, and it was posted on HN as a companion to gradient.horse. The one comment only links the post and asks whether an omission was deliberate, so it does not judge the writing.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I just tried using primitive on video frames - i has a nice effect, but somewhat jittery. I blended some frames together to avoid it. Here it is, with the bash scripts: http://rybakov.com/blog/primitive/ upd: used a better video example and cleaned up the scripts.

  5. A bit of a reply to all who wrote me: prints go out around May 12, as I had to order some packaging and wait for it to arrive. Also, if you haven't got a message from me, please check your spam folder! 9. I wrote about creating adaptive streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH) using ffmpeg and mp4box before [1]. It is nice to see that ffmpeg is incorporating more and more of the same features. Has anybody got ffmpeg to create HLS out of mp4 fragments as well? It would save some conversion time and space, since the same MP4 fragments could be used with the two different manifest files, DASH and HLS. Mp4box is not quite there y…

  11. Glad to see the concept of work spaces realized quite thoroughly - I wrote about the need for such an approach before: https://rybakov.com/blog/open_tabs_are_cognitive_spaces/ I am intrigued, though, how well the browsing history concept scales up to dozens of tabs. In my experience, I only use the newest tab on mobile, while the other open tabs become some kind of living bookmarks.

  13. Or you could use a (quite affordable) ultrasonic machine designed for gentle cleaning of jewelry, dentures, glasses.. I've used one to extract fragrance from biological material for an artistic project[0], and it worked really well. Instead of having to wait for a few weeks for a tincture to finish, you put the same tincture (alcohol and material you want to extract fragrance from) into a plastic bag for just 15 min…

  19. I'm not tluyben2 and really interested in his secret, but here's what helped me most: – not taking what my inner critic says too literal. I imagine someone else saying such critical things to me – it would be ridiculous and I'd tell them to go to hell. So I just accept that something fuels my inner critic and take care of it in a different way. – enjoying the little things in front of me instead of obsessing about p…

  25. Especially with the "top sites" or "highlights" feature of contemporary browsers, that in essence show different doors, invite into other worlds as soon as you open a new tab. So instead of going where you wanted to go you get disoriented by all the offerings. Can't not link to my blog post Open tabs are cognitive spaces [0] that deals with the browser as the place you externalize your cognition to. [0] https://ryba…

  30. I am using this technique to lazy load and unload videos on my site[1]. Since there are many videos that autoplay on scroll, some mechanism is needed to stop loading a video that has been scrolled over. I am using onScreen which I found more efficient than alternative solutions. [1] http://rybakov.com/blog/ [2] https://github.com/silvestreh/onScreen
