What Hacker News says?
Learning to code and hack on TI 83+’s definitely has through lines to my career nearly 20 years later. One thing I’m particularly proud of was figuring out how to build an Assembly program workaround for TI’s “testguard” (a tool to force clear someone else’s calculator memory via link cable) in middle school: https://mikeknoop.com/upload/SafeGuard.zip

HN discussionThis thread reminded me of a draft post I've been sitting on for a while, related to ENTITY tags in XML and XXE exploits. Basically, it's really easy to leave default XML parsing settings (for things like consuming RSS feeds) and accidentally open yourself up to reading files off the filesystem. I did a full write-up and POC here: http://mikeknoop.com/lxml-xxe-exploit

HN discussionThere's actually a useful Zapier script that already does this [0]. I remember reading about it on Mike Knoop's (Zapier cofounder) blog [1]. I haven't tried it out but you should be able to hook it up to any of the alert services that Zapier integrates with. (Which is a lot!) HN discussionThis is a resource I put together after giving a talk at IowaConf this year ( http://mikeknoop.com/iowaconf-road-to-zapier/ ) It's huge (4,000+ words) but if you ever give a talk it could be really useful.

HN discussionOh man! Who would have known my undergraduate capstone project would be so relevant? To improve accuracy of Nerf Blasters, we realized that barrel rifling had little effect. So we took a different approach. Prototype: http://zpr.io/PphB.png High-speed footage of added rotation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87Y0A6IMJM8&list=SP0FF1657C0B... HN discussionFun memory trip. Learned assembly on those old Z80s in middle school. I had to go re-dig up SafeGuard, a program I made by reverse engineering TI's TestGuard, to stop admins from wiping your calculator memory and all your games! https://mikeknoop.com/upload/safeguard/
