What Hacker News says?

  1. Great post, really interesting to see how they did the shots and glad to see they opted for real footage and techniques most of the time rather than just post processing everything. I used to shoot free form lenses, it was difficult to get a still from, shooting video would be a challenge. My (old) post on free lens shooting: https://mkaz.com/2005/01/08/homemade-lenses/

  5. > Its a generational thing. Programmers grown up on JavaScript will prefer JSON Not really, JSON is a simpler format with better parsing built-in for most languages. It is easier to use for programmers and performs better across the network. This is as true today as it was true 7-years ago when I wrote this article: https://mkaz.com/2007/03/02/goodbye-xml-hello-json/

  7. This would be a good time to point out that OSX supports Emacs bindings in all Cocoa text fields. For example, you can press ctrl+a to go to the beginning of the line and ctrl+e to go to the end of the line. The "Meta" modifier can be accessed via alt+ctrl, so you can alt+ctrl+f to go forward a word, or alt+ctrl+b to go back a word. Any motion can be combined with shift to select the text. These are especially usefu…

  9. Not a book, and a bit self promotional, but I have a small photo series I worked on https://mkaz.com/silicon-valley/ Also, look for Silicon Valley '07 by Gabriele Basilico, it's a photo book - not a huge coffee table book but pretty good with about 80-100 photos from 2007

I had a look at your website and you write about interesting topics. I’d like to keep track of that. It appears, before the rebuild, you had a feed @ http://mkaz.com/rss.xml — which is gone. I guess the Lanyon web server doesn’t generate atom or RSS feeds out-of-the-box? That’d be a pity, while a Web based on Markdown+Git+WebSocket (or something alike) still is a long shot…
