What Hacker News says?
Back in September HN had a great discussion on how different DeepSeek providers have very different performance: https://mmoustafa.com/blog/so-you-want-to-use-openrouter/ And I was speculating that it was likely due to hosting differences like this. It would be fascinating to see if this would improve, for example, tool calling, something that third-party DeepSeek providers never do as well as DeepSeek themselves.

HN discussionFun! Reminds me of spending a week in 2012 trying to find the perfect blackboard chalk effect http://mmoustafa.com/experiments/chalk/ After many experiments, the most realistic was painting a thick line and then erasing tiny randomly sized rectangles out of it.

HN discussionYes, openrouter providers are all over the place (in a bad way): https://mmoustafa.com/blog/so-you-want-to-use-openrouter/ I've experienced this firsthand and now I generally pin to providers that I trust on openrouter, or just pony up and pay for the real thing.
