HN discussionEdit: It looks like satire. My bad :) Doesn't your article here go directly against what you're saying? https://neil.computer/notes/hacker-news-design-is-ugly/ Specifically, you redesigned HN to have more "pop" and have rounded corners and padding: https://neil.computer/content/images/size/w1600/2020/07/Scre... which is exactly what you were saying macOS looks like... Isn't that hypocritical?

HN discussionI kinda disagree. These aren’t very good examples. Also the dough mixer is for restaurants, not military use. :-) Although I want one now. Here is a kitchen scale I bought. Made in Switzerland, no less. It’s bloody beautiful: https://neil.computer/notes/mettler-toledo-ml3002e-teardown/ Does that mean all consumer grade stuff is bad? No. Leatherman tools and 3M consumer grade stuff is usually great. Nalgene bottles.…

HN discussionFeedback noted, I don't think the new JetBrains UI is out for testing. I need to find time to write an extremely detailed post mortem of a user interface gone wrong. I did one for Apple a while ago although not as detailed as I'd like: https://neil.computer/notes/apple-ux-ui-is-regressing/ and another rant on Google's mute button: https://neil.computer/notes/oh-sorry-i-was-on-mute/ . HN discussionAs a ME, I used to manage a lab in a large corporation. McMasterCarr is ingrained in the US engineering culture. Every lab has a 5 inch thick yellow catalog. Also Thorlabs. Everytime I'd open their shipment, it'd include Lab Snacks™. I wrote about it here [1]. Both are awesome companies to deal with. [1] https://neil.computer/notes/thorlabs-lab-snacks/
