  1. Ouch, I had forgotten about those specific devices. I had a Mac Mini Core Duo that I had upgraded to a Core2 Duo and was never able to get Snow Leopard to boot into 64-bit mode. I was able to get Linux and even OpenBSD installed on it using the previously mentioned bootia32.efi method. Also, you may be able to boot 64-bit macOS on your system if you follow the netkas.org link from your everymac.com link: http://netk…

  3. I'm curious how much Metal matters but it seems like they went from GPU to CPU in Yosemite and then back to the GPU. The review sorta skimmed on Metal but reported that it only worked on a Mac Pro 2013, which lead me to wonder why my 2008 Mac Pro couldn't run it with a GeForce 680 GTX, turns out it can. http://netkas.org/?p=1405

  5. I agree with this post except for this part: > The video cards in the last generation of MacPro's could only be upgraded to the cards offered directly from Apple or the handful Mac-specific parts offered by third parties. With it's unusual form factors, the new MacPro will probably offer even fewer options. Since OSX 10.7-ish a lot of cards have "just worked". Before then using a PC card was a bit of a crap shoot, b…

  7. If you held on to that machine for a few more years it would have been dropped by OS X Yosemite, but then hilariously still supported by essentially making the machine a Hackintosh! https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2006-2007-mac-pro-1-1-2... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/2006-2007-mac-pro-1-1-2... 9. Resolution independence - IMO that's never gonna happen. Apple will do the pixel-doubling thing, I reckon. Netkas has confirmed the following about Lion: ( http://netkas.org/?p=609 ) >Lion requires hardware with a Core 2 Duo processor or better. A lot of apps are sandboxed. OpenGL 3.2 support

  13. Did Matt at Geek Technica even look into the issue beyond the initial accusation by netkas accusation? If I say that netkas stole the code from me, will he similarly parrot this entirely false statement on my behalf? According to this iHackintosh post < http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/01/download-pc-efi-v9-chamel... , netkas's bootloader is based on Chameleon. Indeed, the readme in that package reads, "These two pro…

  15. To be fair: the license text at http://netkas.org/?p=62 doesn't look like "open source" to me. It's a non-commercial-use-only thing that quite clearly doesn't meet the standards of the open source definition. Doesn't mean that Psystar has the right to use it, of course. Just that it doesn't look particularly valuable to the community either. The author is cheesed because he/she isn't being paid, not because Psystar…

  16. Yeah, this was a very uncritical puff piece. Psystar has been selling the open source stuff as their own, directly in violation of the APSL, etc. Here are some references: http://netkas.org/?p=62 http://netkas.org/?p=310

  17. It's not a lack of horsepower. It's an infuriating artificial restriction against running 64-bit Darwin kernels on 32-bit EFI. There's no technical reason why a 64-bit kernel can't be launched by a 32-bit EFI, but for some reason Apple has decided that 64-bit kernels will only boot from 64-bit EFI, and Mountain Lion will ship with a 64-bit kernel. See http://netkas.org/?p=830 for more. edit: Oh, and as to your white…
