What Hacker News says?

  1. This brings to mind Nina Paley's "Copyright is Brain Damage": https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XO9FKQAxWZc Paley is in the process of creating an epic animated story, using music appropriated with out rights, as a protest piece against copyright. She addresses the question somewhat at her blog: http://blog.ninapaley.com/?s=copyright+is+brain+damage&submi... If you're looking for a transcript, I'm not aware of one, thou…

To help categorize and understand: I'd characterize your argument as the "Stallman" argument, where the simplicity of copying justifies the moral argument against copyright. There is a alternate vein which doesn't have to do with value or scarcity, but which has to do with rivalrousness (that is a very subtle distinction): http://blog.ninapaley.com/2011/07/09/culture-is-anti-rivalro... stallman's tangible/intangible idea, while a nice first order attempt, might not be the correct lens with which to look at things. I like Nina Paley's "rivalrous/anti-rivalrous" analysis better. http://blog.ninapaley.com/2011/07/09/culture-is-anti-rivalro...

  20. This contract echoes the story of Nina Palin's attempt to get her Free (creative-commons share-alike) movie "Sita Sings the Blues" on netflix streaming without DRM. Netflix refused. They even refused to let her put a title-card at the start of the movie telling viewers that the movie was free to download from other sources. http://blog.ninapaley.com/2010/04/23/turning-down-netflix/ Three years later she went full CC…

  23. You’re assuming that “women” asked for the full package of changes we ended up with. I’d argue that their focus was more on being able to vote and being able to have bank accounts, and the sexual revolution was driven more by liberal men than by a broad coalition of women: https://blog.ninapaley.com/2019/08/23/andrea-dworkin-on-the-...
