Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
Commenters mention OPAL-RT as a real-time simulation provider for power electronics, built on MATLAB/Simulink, and used by electricity sector clients. None of the comments discuss the writing.

I'm curious then, what do they use for real time simulations? From what I see, some groups use Opal-RT: https://www.opal-rt.com/ Some groups use Typhoon: https://www.typhoon-hil.com Opal-RT is built on MATLAB/Simulink, which is how it came up. Anyway, what real time simulators do you use?

HN discussionI've been at OPAL-RT for about a year now, providing real-time simulation tools for power electronics. So clients include electric vehicle manufacturers, renewables companies, grid operators... pretty much everyone who is involved in electricity, which is a lot. The exec team is also directly committed to being good, so work-life balance + conditions + compensation are great and they contribute something like 2% of…

HN discussionWhat you’re generalizing as “inverter power sources” don’t have any fundamental technical limitation like you describe. Those limitations are an artifact of the historical default of a “grid following” inverter that was suitable when the grid was mostly turbine and hydro generators. Grid following inverters assume the existence of a certain critical mass of large spinning wheels as power sources to set the baseline…
