Why HN links it

The feed is OTTO's engineering blog. The comments link to the otto.de retail shop and discuss the company's webshop, jobs and GitHub, not any of its tech blog posts.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I have stopped using Amazon all together >1 year ago. Prime Video is as shitty as it gets and most stuff ordered on Amazon is Chinese shovelware in the same rankings as Temu. I give exactly zero shit about same day delivery in 99,99% of the cases. Amazon shines in customer support though. Search & categorization is entirely broken, the webshop experience is absolutely abysmal. Just order from better online stores. I…

  3. There is a notable exception to this role: Germany's e-commerce giant Otto [1] has transitioned from order by catalogue to webstore pretty well and they are doing some nice things techwise. Maybe exception to the rule but definitely an example of not being stuck in the past and it's a LARGE corporation. [1] https://www.otto.de/

  5. Regarding the battery meter — Casio just updated much of the classic g-shock line with the 5xxxU versions. They have many much requested features including a battery indicator. Example: https://www.otto.de/p/casio-g-shock-funk-multifunktionsuhr-g...

  9. No, these are much larger fridges. https://www.otto.de/p/samsung-kuehl-gefrierkombination-bespo... 273l fridge plus 114l freezer, modeled power draw 134kWh. This is a premium product, a less expensive model (similar capacity) takes 166kWh. https://www.otto.de/p/samsung-kuehl-gefrierkombination-rl36t...

  11. As a German the self driving company Otto is really confusing. It doesn't only have the same name but also almost exactly the same logo as Otto, the decades old and second largest online retailer in Germany: https://www.otto.de/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_(company)

  12. I checked out the profile by their main software architect Guido Steinacker [1], their job offerings on otto.de [2], their github (they have repos for classic Java EE patterns, like their Wicket component tester and HAL stuff, which is a default in spring data) [3], and their stepstone, which mostly shows spring and java jobs [4]. There is no single asp.net job listed and they also don’t have anything asp.net relate…
