Lukáš Lalinský's personal blog at oxygene.sk covers programming and data. Since 2014, 5 different Hacker News readers have linked it 8 times, most often “How does Chromaprint work?”. The last post was in 2016, but the archive is still widely read.
Too few sampled comments (6) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog for explanations of audio fingerprinting, mainly how Chromaprint works and how it compares with Shazam-style matching. Commenters also use it to support points about music databases and patents.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 6 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

on “Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (July 2014)”You would want to compute the chromaprints from the mod archive yourself, but acoustic would work quite well. Its fingerprints only consume about 15 bytes per second. Matching songs merely requires finding bit patterns with minimal hamming distance. Alignment requires a couple tricks, but nothing onerous. https://oxygene.sk/2011/01/how-does-chromaprint-work/

on “Molasses: DIY Shazaam”in case the blog post disappears: don't worry that much. first, patents describe the algorithm good enough, and 2nd this is not the best music matching method, it's rather primitive. this is much better: https://oxygene.sk/2011/01/how-does-chromaprint-work/ as used in musicbrainz

on “I received a patent infringement email for my weekend project (2010)”There is also Chromaprint [1], which works slightly differently. It’s based on pitch change patterns instead of maxima in the spectrum. Chromaprint is used by AcoustID, which is a large open database that links audio fingerprints to MusicBrainz recordings. I find it astonishing how much music is in there despite having not nearly as much commercial backing as Shazam. [1]: https://oxygene.sk/2011/01/how-does-chromapr…
