Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Linked for posts on web workers, such as a 2016 experiment moving React's logic into a worker, and a 2011 article on developing Windows 8 Metro apps. Commenters cite them as references.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

  3. Virtual DOM makes rendering fast, but it has extra costs in eventing and in javascript timers. Virtual DOM is not free IMHO. Some quantitative results - http://blog.nparashuram.com/2015/03/performance-comparison-o...

  7. There's been some experiments with moving React's logic into a web worker, but the main one I know of was a couple years back : http://blog.nparashuram.com/2016/02/using-webworkers-to-make... . Would be interesting to try updating that.

  13. The performance difference is noticable. I did React into a Web worker, and here are the performance results - http://blog.nparashuram.com/2016/02/using-webworkers-to-make... Some of the other uses typically are - sort of flow control between the thread and the worker, so that only sufficient VDOM operations are sent across the thread. This basically leaves the UI thread to other things like GIF animations, redraw U…

  15. Web workers can win you huge performance boosts. In my work we implemented auto-indexing of client-side resources so you can search without lag or hiccups, and we published a library [0] so that others could use it. Pushing stuff as much stuff as you can to web workers is definitely something that needs to get more love. This isn't a particularly new idea. Here's a short writeup about this in react-future [1]. Rough…
