  3. Actual encoding for renders is all CPU based: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2122549 Personally, I use DaVinci Resolve, but the results are largely the same, with exports being largely entirely CPU dependent: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/DaVinci-Resolve-1... Looks like Puget Systems does a lot of performance shootouts, including some Premiere ones: https://www.pugetsystems.com/all_articles.php Philip…

  5. Most of them are still pretty Mac heavy, I said 'moving to PC'. The agencies I work with and worked at have begun to purchase more and more PCs over Macs. Adobe Creative Cloud apps tend to work better on PC now so this is a big reason. The areas I mentioned (video, photography, audio, gamedev, 3d etc) are moving to hefty PC machines that need 64GB/128GB/256GB+ of ram, latest GPUs, many drives and many cores (16-40+)…

  6. > It almost has a tilt shift kind of quality like it’s you’re focusing on one point. It shouldn't be surprising to anyone that knows anything about cameras that if you don't have the lens lined up properly you'll get a tilt-shift effect. This is basically a rig that does controlled "lens whacking", where you don't mount the lens but you hold it freely to let light bleed through the mount and mess up the focal plane…

  7. I don't see that. Actually professionals (in general, but also people I know) don't update that often. Think 5-6 years timescale. They need a stable base, and they don't even upgrade OSes or computers. So, in all the time FCPX is out, they are still 1 or 2 FCP versions behind. They might get on the FCPX bandwagon on v2 or even 3. In another field I know even better because my brother works on it, professional music…

  9. The tech/work behind Avatar is far more expensive then Toy Story. There are plenty of poor quality animation that pop up in films by major studios. And there are a number of quality cg animation by students for example http://vimeo.com/1470875 Avatar is really an edge case, majority of the shows on Hulu don't cost that much. For example: http://philipbloom.net/2010/04/10/house-season-finale-shot-e... The finale of a…

These party videos are from the first time I used my 7D. Even though the focus is wack I was pretty excited about the quality of this video. This is after filming skateboard videos for years using VX2000s and the like. http://vimeo.com/rdouble/videos I've since got a special lens and a Zacuto z-finder and have been very happy with the results after practicing a bit more. Philip Bloom's blog is an essential resource…

  11. I have a Canon 7d that takes beautiful video. I spent a fair amount of time learning to make beautiful videos with it, and I also spent a fair amount of money buying low light lenses, filters (vari nd filter), and still need to buy audio (zoom h4n), steadycam (zacuto) and follow focus gear. The thing is, I intend to make a documentary so I do want it to be as good as I can possibly make it so I will end up spending…

  13. Just an example of what a prosumer camera could do 12 years ago from a Sony A7s: https://philipbloom.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/SONY... This camera is capable of iso 409,600, 4 stops higher than this image. I mean this is turning night into day.
