What Hacker News says?
I've written about this topic before. Maybe it convinces you that you should (almost) always use timestamptz. https://phili.pe/posts/timestamps-and-time-zones-in-postgres...

HN discussionI've written a post about timestamp vs timestamptz and the only valid reason for timestamp I could come up with is exactly this, scheduling events in the future: https://phili.pe/posts/timestamps-and-time-zones-in-postgres...

HN discussionMight sound "dumb" or confusing (which it is), but makes a lot of sense. I've written a post explaining the difference between "timestamp with/without time zone": http://phili.pe/posts/timestamps-and-time-zones-in-postgresq...

HN discussionSame here: https://phili.pe/ I've used CSS variables though, which make it even simpler. E.g. I have `--page-background-color` and `--text-color-primary` that are set to a certain default value. In dark mode, these variables are set to other values, removing the need to redefine the actual selectors.

HN discussionWell I would use timestamptz, using user's timezone only to convert for display. Use cases for timestamp are very limited. Just make sure you include a timezone info in string representations in your SQL queries. For example '2000-01-01T00:00:00Z' where Z stands for UTC. Otherwise that would insert a timestamp into a timestamptz column, in which case postgres uses local timezone setting for conversion, implicitly; t…

HN discussionAnd thank you so much for the chart[0] mapping absolute to wall time. I always have a hard time visualizing DST changes ( usually I am mentally "sliding" bars of time against each other and get confused), but that one just gave me a click . HN discussionI often refer to this article https://phili.pe/posts/timestamps-and-time-zones-in-postgres... regarding timestamp and timestamptz >> Because the vast majority of our use cases for storing timestamps is to represent specific, unambiguous moments in time, we pretty much always want to use the timestamptz type. > This advice is not great. One needs to specifically know their data. I think the advice is good advice: whe…
