  1. Piñata is great and I'm a happy user, but one note: Piñata is not free above 1GB. You can see their pricing page here: https://pinata.cloud/pricing .

  3. I recommend Pinata [0] for IPFS pinning if you do not want to host your own IPFS node. I'm not sure when they'll start charging but it's been free since they launched and I believe Infura [1] also has free pinning. Cloudflare [2] is a good alternative gateway to use. For deployment I use this deploy tool [3] which makes it as simple as `ipd -p pinata my-app` to host a static frontend. [0] https://pinata.cloud/ [1] h…

  5. I'm wondering that as well so dug into the site. IPFS is a way to host and distribute files. It's not free. To have files distributed they need to be hosted somewhere. You can do this yourself by hosting an IPFS server at home or in the cloud. On IPFS this is called a "pin". Pinata host and serves your files to pin them on IPFS. That's why their list of services is that of a cloud provider. From their pricing/plans…

  9. Note that the Filecoin network (which was designed to be the incentive layer for IPFS storage) has been operational for some time. If you look at the current status at https://file.app/ , you can see that storage costs there are extremely low for large amounts of data. If you can get your data verified as open, public data by applying for datacap with a Filecoin+ notary, it's currently free. See https://plus.fil.org…

  17. > Where is the content hosted once the build has been finished? There's services like INFURA [0] and Pinata [1] that will pin content for free. It's as simple as using ipfs-deploy [2] to publish the build directory to one of those IPFS pinning services. 19. "What is stored on the blockchain is most often a link to a web page[6] that itself points to the associated object. Here again, we have lost all idea of decentralization" No where in the article did the author mention IPFS ( https://ipfs.io/ ). The trend with NFTs is that the digital assets are stored on IPFS, typically through a pinning service like Pinata ( https://www.pinata.cloud/ ). With the asset being conten…

  20. I’ve thought about this a lot before in my personal and professional life. If you combine JSON with a SQLite database, you can get the best of both worlds. Disclaimer, I wrote this for work but it is based on ideas I developed outside of work. https://pinata.cloud/blog/will-json-work-as-a-database/

  21. Hey HN community! I’m excited to showcase an app I helped build during the ETHDenver Hackathon last week. It’s called submarine.me and it lets anyone—technical or not—upload private, IPFS-backed content that they can lock behind an NFT with a simple share link. Anyone with the link can prove they own the NFT in question and unlock the media. Full disclosure, this app was built under the Pinata ( https://pinata.cloud…
