What Hacker News says?
I also tested Firebase but quickly ran into issues. Firebase's database is a NoSQL database, whereas almost all my data for the apps and (micro-)SaaS I was building had relational data. Their frontend data fetching felt clunky and did not fit my requirement. Also, the fact that Firebase is a closed-source backend felt scary in the hands of Google ( https://killedbygoogle.com/ ). Firebase's problems and my desire to…

HN discussionWow, I thought I created this thread in my sleep. This is exactly what we do at Nhost ( https://nhost.io ) too. I usually explains Nhost as Google Firebase, but: - SQL (PostgreSQL) - GraphQL (Hasura) - 100% open source After being both delighted and frustrated about Firebase I decided that something must be done. The developer experience on Firebase is awesome but the tech and the lock-in effect is super bad. This w…

HN discussionnhost.io basically does this. it packages Hasura with its own auth backend, as well as an S3 compatible storage backend. They're adding lambda functions soon. Effectively a firebase alternative using open source tech https://www.nhost.io

HN discussionI would like to add Nhost to the list ( https://nhost.io ). You get GraphQL API (hasura), PostgreSQL, authentication, and storage. Everything managed for you. We started just a few months ago, but are already getting very good feedback from our customers. BTW, we just released a CLI to make local development easier, check out the companion blog post here https://nhost.io/blog/announcing-nhosts-cli .

HN discussionSupabase looks nice. I’m also using Postgres hosted by https://nhost.io/ which also do auth and storage. It looks like Supabase is focused on REST and Nhost is focused on GraphQL?

HN discussionI prefer having the database as a single source of truth and use something like [Hasura]( https://nhost.io ) to generate the GraphQL API.

HN discussionThis is fantastic to see. First time I tried out Hasura back in late 2018 I was AMAZED. After going through multiple different stacks such as MeteorJS, Firebase, building my own REST/GraphQL API etc. Nothing really felt right. That was until I found out about Hasura. I actually had to assemble a quick meetup at the co-working space I was on (true story) to show everybody this software. Hasura Tweet: https://twitter.…

HN discussionCongratulations on the GraphQL launch. I think it is a step in the right direction :) I see a lot of mentions of Hasura in the comments. If you'd like what Supabase is building but prefer using Hasura you might want to check out what we're building at Nhost ( http://nhost.io/ ). We use Hasura's GraphQL Engine for the API layer while also providing Postgres, Auth, Storage and Serverless Functions. (CEO of Nhost)

HN discussionHow many people will use it and how will it be used? What is the app exactly going to do? Whe first thing that comes to mind i Notion, which is a true no-code alternative if you want to build internal CRUD apps. The next step would be to use a managed backend and a no-code frontend. For backend you can use services like Firebase [1], Nhost [2], or Supabase [3]. For frontend you can use something like Retool [4]. [1]…

HN discussionI hope to have a more detailed analysis to share when we have more accurate data. We launched individual instances recently and although I don't have exact numbers, the price difference will be significant. Just imagine how much it would cost to have 1 RDS instance per tenant (we have thousands). We haven't open-sourced any of this work yet but we hope to do it soon. HN discussionMaybe https://hasura.io is something to have a look at? It's a GraphQL server that gives you realtime GraphQL API's over Postgres/SQL. I've been trying out https://nhost.io for some time now. They use Hasura and I'm impressed by how easy subscriptions are using Apollo to query the GraphQL API.
